UNOPS & UNICEF
For UNOPS, SSL constructed eight office buildings, totaling approximately 2,400m2. Being a licensed importer in South Sudan allowed us to make the best use of our international logistics, clearing & forwarding skills to directly import the materials not available locally. This regional logistics know-how resulted in significant cost savings. The building blocks used in the project were made directly on site with our block-making machines.
SLL also completed construction of an office building, workshop and generator shade in 2007 for the UNICEF complex, budgeted at US$1.9 million.
After successful completion of an earlier UNICEF-funded project through UNOPS in 2008, UNOPS and SSL partnered to build 3 primary health care centres in Yeri and Mvolo Counties (Western Equatorial State) and Wulu County (Lakes State) within South Sudan. These clinics are the first of their kind within these counties and are funded by the USAID through UNOPS. Each clinic consists of male and female wards and 1- and 2-bedroomed accommodation as well as service and waste structures. Despite several disruptions forcing us to evacuate these sites for weeks, SSL completed this project and handed it over to the UNOPS in December 2008, meeting the budget of US$1.74 million.
In December 2010, SSL completed construction of dormitories for the Rumbek Institute of Education, a project budgeted for US$972,000. In 2011, SSL completed a primary school in Rumbek for UNICEF.
We pride ourselves in being a one-stop shop, as all the materials for these projects were either made within the premises of SSL or sourced directly from SSL suppliers.
